When moving, the assembly of furniture often determines whether a usable bed and a functional workstation will be ready that evening. At the same time, “disassembly and assembly included” is too vague: not all furniture can be dismantled without damage, fixing it to the building is a separate task and small missing parts hamper reassembly. An assembly plan makes the quotes comparable and clarifies responsibilities.
Which furniture to check before moving

Walk through each room and locate large cabinets, beds, shelves, tables and modular systems. Write down the manufacturer and model if you know them. Check if instructions are available and if the furniture has already been assembled several times. Glued, damaged or heavily deformed constructions present an increased risk of damage during further dismantling.
Photos of the assembled condition facilitate reassembly. Also photograph the connections, rails, hinges and the position of the different parts. For complex system furniture, specialist assembly from the manufacturer may make more sense than general moving assembly.
Distinguish three levels of services
- Prepare for transport: doors, shelves or legs are removed so that the furniture can be carried safely.
- Complete disassembly and reassembly : the furniture is dismantled into sub-assemblies, transported and reassembled at destination.
- Assembly to the building: shelves, cabinets or other elements fixed to the wall or ceiling. This service must be clarified separately.
Lamps, water connections and permanently integrated elements are not automatically part of furniture assembly. Name these works separately and clarify which qualified specialist takes care of them.
Set inventory and mount priority
Establish a table with furniture, old part, new part, extent of dismantling and priority. For families, beds and the dining table are often priorities; in the office, the reception, workstations and meeting room can come first. The order influences vehicle loading and unloading at destination.
| Furniture | Preparation | Destination n | Priority |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lit | disassembly complete | Bedroom | back on moving day |
| Wardrobe | secure doors and shelves | Bedroom 2 | after bed |
| Shelf | wall mounting to be clarified separately | Office | within the first week |
Label small parts without risk of loss
Screws, fittings and keys go per piece of furniture in a sturdy, labeled bag. Attach the bag to the furniture only if the surface and transport are not damaged; otherwise, consolidate the sachets into a clearly marked assembly box. Use the same number on the furniture parts, bag and inventory list.
Tape directly onto lacquered, oiled or sensitive surfaces may leave residue or cause damage. Labels go on protective material or non-critical locations. Shelves, doors and drawers must not remain free in the furniture.
Prepare the destination location before reassembly
Measure installation surfaces, doors, plinths and ceiling height. Check if sockets, radiators or windows limit the intended position. The floor must be finished, dry and freely accessible. If painting work follows the move, unnecessary double work appears; it makes more sense to coordinate painting, cleaning, delivery and reassembly in advance.
For wall fixings, you must know the type of wall and whether pipes are suspected. Do not silently pass this task off as part of reassembly.
What the quote must explicitly state
- List of all furniture with desired disassembly and assembly
- Protection of panels, glass, doors and fittings
- Treatment of furniture which does not seem to be dismountable without damage
- Assembly the same day or in a separate slot
- Wall fixings, adaptations and drilling: included or excluded
- Supply of tools and small materials usual
- Procedure in case of missing or damaged hardware
- Receipt and reporting of visible damage
Send the same list to all providers. A low transport price without reassembly is not directly comparable to a complete service. Other criteria appear in the guide Check a moving quote.
Demarcate personal work judiciously

You can empty the drawers, pack the contents, prepare the instructions and label the parts. Only disassemble the furniture yourself if you are familiar with the construction, weight and reassembly. Document the condition. If a service provider only transports, it must be clear in what condition the parts must be ready for collection.
Reception after reassembly
Check stability, doors, drawers, visible surfaces and completeness. A reception does not mean being able to definitively assess hidden problems; However, immediately record visible discrepancies. Keep remaining hardware labeled instead of disposing of it without checking.
Identify special cases early
Glass display cases, custom furniture, wardrobes with sliding doors and old system furniture require special attention. For custom furniture, the new piece may have different wall angles, plinths or heights. Reassembly to the destination is then not automatically possible. Have it checked whether the adaptations are part of the quote or must be carried out by a carpenter.
For furniture with integrated lighting, motors or cable management, document the connections before dismantling. Pure mechanical assembly does not mean that the electrical components are connected or checked.
Reserve assembly time during the moving process
The team cannot carry all the furniture and reassemble complex systems at the same time. Agree if some personnel ascend or if reassembly begins after unloading. With a tight window, priority furniture must be clearly marked and their parts loaded last to be available first at destination.
Transition between personal work and business
If you dismantle yourself and the company only reassembles, it needs complete, sorted parts and understandable documentation. Conversely, in the event of professional dismantling, do not remove individual fittings without agreement. Record the handover status per piece of furniture in the list. Thus, in the event of missing parts, we can trace when and by whom the furniture was taken back.
Simplify the assembly of furniture thanks to good preparation
Good furniture assembly is a planned additional service, not an incidental phrase in the quote. A numbered furniture list, clear priorities and prepared destination pieces avoid questions and double work. Online-Offerten.ch does not assemble furniture itself, but helps to obtain suitable quotes. Describe the scope in the free request in the same way for all providers.
